As the busiest tourist town around, South Lake Tahoe abounds in holiday events for both visitors and locals alike. A good place to start is in the Heavenly Village with their Heavenly Holidays festival. There is something going on almost every night in December, with Santa, beautiful lights, a ferris wheel, ice rink, Disney characters, and a Santa Crawl to cap it all off. Events calendar here.
The 70 foot cut Christmas tree is generally sourced from within South Lake to give the events a true local flair. There are also smaller tree lighting events in Meyers and at Edgewood. For a different take on the holidays, head out on the South Shore Holiday Trail of Lights. This is a self guided driving tour taking in some of the best commercial and residential holiday lighting displays in the whole area: Glenbrook, Zephyr Cove, Kingsbury, Stateline, South Lake Tahoe, and Meyers.
